Gambit Chess Club

Welcome.

We are open all year round, including during the summer, and are the only chess club in Nottingham north of the city centre.

We meet on Tuesday evenings in the upstairs function room at the Lincolnshire Poacher real ale pub, 161 Mansfield Road, NG1 3FR, 10 minutes walk from both the Victoria Centre and the Trent Uni Tram Stop, and are only a couple of bus stops up Mansfield Road. Parking is available on Mansfield Road (a parking charge applies until 10pm), on North Sherwood Street (permit only until 8pm on some parts), and other side streets.

If you work or study at Trent Uni we are just up the road.

If you haven’t played competitive chess before, feel free to come and play casual games in a warm and friendly environment.

If you decide later to play competitively you can join one of our 7 teams in the Nottinghamshire Chess League (see https://lms.englishchess.org.uk/lms/organisation/680), or you can choose to simply continue playing friendly games.

Our internal Rapidplay Championship gives you the opportunity of playing rated chess without the ‘pressure’ of league chess.

We hold our Club Championship every May, and have some fun unrated competitions at various times during the year.

For more information, including membership rates, please see our ‘Club Information’ page or contact our club president John Huthwaite on 07852 309521 /  j.huthwaite63@gmail.com or our webmaster Marian Talmacel on 07795 629776 / talmacelmarian@gmail.com

Gambit Chess Club is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit members’ chess club. Membership fees are used solely towards the costs of operating the club, participating in chess competitions, equipment and activities for members. The club is not operated for the financial benefit of its members or organisers.

Our website is kindly hosted free of charge by Krystal, supporting Gambit Chess Club as a not-for-profit community organisation. We’re very grateful for their support.
