Drag successfully defended the Derbyshire Congress Major title he won last year, but this year managed a perfect 5 out of 5 score. As usual, he had some luck along the way as his 4th round opponent threw away a bishop when winning and then missed a chance to draw.

There was little else to shout about for other Gambit members. In the Open section, Mike B scored just 2 points and Florian 1.5 (he didn’t play on Sunday due to family illness), beating a 2200 player in round 1.
In the Major section, Peter G-M scored 2 points while Mark got just 1.5 but faced stronger opponents than Drag did (because the top 6 seeds all dropped at least 1/2 a point in either round 1 or 2). In the Intermediate section Marian had a tournament to forget, as he scored 1 point after being in decent positions in at least 3 games. Dave Dunne scored 1.5 in the Minor while Florian’s son Albert got 1/2 and also did not play on Sunday.

Last month Florian played in the London Docklands Rapidply and easily won the Major section with 5 points out of 6.
