8 members entered the 3rd Derbyshire Congress at Trent College in Long Eaton last weekend.

Mike B scored 3.5 / 5 in the Open section, ending up joint 3rd, half a point behind the winners. He had 2 wins and 3 draws. In the final round he beat the Nottinghamshire County Champion Alexandr Klimchik.

There were 4 members in the Major section.

Drag scored 3.5 points, coming joint 3rd, half a point behind the winners. He won his first two games, lost in round three, but played nicely to draw and win on Sunday.

John H had a good weekend, scoring 3 points, including a ½ point bye, with a tournament performance rating over 1900.

Vinod won and drew on Saturday but was unable to attend on Sunday so finished on 2 points including his ½ point bye. Had he played on Sunday he would have been up against one of the three leaders on 2.5 points so we’ll never know what might have happened.

Mark had a weekend to forget. After losing to Drag and John H in the first two rounds, and having a ½ point bye in round 3, he turned up on Sunday only to lose both games, ending on just 0.5 points.

Ronnie played well in the Intermediate section to get 1.5 points against 4 much higher rated players, and finished on 2 points including his ½ bye.

Graham also played in the Intermediate section but managed just 1 point against 4 lower rated opponents, and ended up on 1.5 points including a ½ point bye.

Marshall played in the Minor section. After losing in round 1 he went on to win 3 and draw one to end up on 3.5 points, and was joint 3rd, a point behind the winner and ½ behind 2nd place.
